Practice

A manifesto in four scales.

01 DETAIL

A building is only as good as the places where materials meet. We draw every junction at full size: where the concrete stops and the timber starts, where the glass meets the floor, where water leaves the roof. If a detail needs a cover strip to hide it, we redraw it.

02 INTERIOR

Rooms are framed views and framed light. We set ceiling heights, openings and thresholds so each room has a clear purpose and a clear outlook, then keep services out of sight so the structure can be the finish.

03 BUILDING

One regular grid, chosen early and kept. A disciplined grid makes a building cheaper to build, easier to change and honest to read. We let climate shape the section before we add machines: shade, cross-ventilation and thermal mass first.

04 URBAN

Every project is part of a street. We design the edges that the public meets — ground floors, shade, the way rainwater leaves the site — so a building gives something back to the city around it.

Process timeline

Four steps. Each ends with something you can hold, and each has a time you can plan around.

  1. 01 · 2–4 weeks

    Discovery

Brief, site survey, climate and budget. You receive a written brief and a site analysis you can keep, whether or not we continue.

  2. 02 · 4–6 weeks

    Frame

Massing options, the structural grid and the concept. You receive two or three framed options with an outline cost.

  3. 03 · 8–12 weeks

    Resolve

Detailed design, materials, consultants and approvals. You receive drawings for county approval and a tender package.

  4. 04 · 6–18 months on site

    Deliver

Tender, contractor appointment and site supervision to handover, with fortnightly site reports.

Durations are typical for a house or a small commercial building. County approvals and contractor availability can move the Deliver stage.
